And now a post dedicated to one of my favorite authors who posts her blogs on GoodReads from her home in Texas.
Dear Shanna Swendson,
First off, let me just say that despite that not a whole lot of readers have read Enchanted, Inc. or its sequels, you are one of my favorite authors.
The first time I read the first two installments of your series, I was swept up into Katie Chandler’s New York where the Big Apple itself is a magical place. In fact, when I went to a leadership retreat while I was a college student, there was one guest speaker who said, “New York City is a magical place. Has anybody at least seen it from the airplane window before landing at La Guardia or JFK? It’s got such an incredible view, and it is magical, only if you believe it to be.”
That gave me a newfound love of the city, even though I’ve never been there. I’ve always wanted to grab a frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity’s, grab some sugar at Dylan’s Candy Bar, see Times Square, and catch a live taping of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, a.k.a. 30 Rock. Since I read your series, I’ve fallen in love with Owen Palmer, and wondered what trouble Katie would get herself into this time.
As I said in the comment section of your blog, I’ve just been to the library to pick up a copy of No Quest For the Wicked, which is the second to the last installment of Katie Chandler’s epic story. I figured it was only a matter of time before she and Owen would finally get together and head back to New York, but I didn’t think that Owen would eventually end up losing his magic powers in one fateful battle. I can’t wait to read more.
I do have a question, though. How do you get a GoodReads blog on your profile for people to read? I looked around my GoodReads profile and I can’t seem to make my blog posts come up on there as much as I post on WordPress. Is that a perk for published authors only or is that for anyone who has a blog?
I’m not sure I’ll get any responses from you, since the only way I can get anything back is through the comments of this blog, depending on if you have a WordPress account or not. It doesn’t matter.
Someday, if I ever get a book on the shelf at Barnes and Noble, I’d love to have tea or drinks with you sometime and talk about the craft of writing and the love of singing, either in choir or at karaoke. (I used to be in choir in high school myself. I had a solo in my school’s production of Carmina Burana.)
Until that time I become a published author, I’ll leave you to the writing and reading pleasures. I look forward to reading your work as I tend to my own writings and musings. You are lovely.
Regards, Rachel Beth Ahrens
